Directors Javier Roberto Carlos and Yvan Iturriaga will present their films, respectively.
Terrenos Fuera Y Dentro (Inner and Outer Terrains)is a three-channel video installation documenting La Caminata Nocturna, a participatory reenactment of a border crossing into the U.S. created as an immersive experience for tourists. In this staged journey, tourists step into the roles of migrants, while local residents—many with harrowing experiences of migration—play the menacing roles of gang members, narcos, and border patrol agents. This innovative documentary raises critical questions about whether these reenactments serve as exploitation or a means of survival and agency for those involved.
36 minutes, preceded by Sui Generis, a 7-minute short by Yvan Iturriaga.
