“Prodigal Daughter” documentary
Through her vibrant photo-paintings of family, Mabel Valdiviezo’s full-length documentary "Prodigal Daughter” offers a unique perspective on the immigrant experience. It explores the intersections of family reconnection, gendered migration, mental health, and art as a source of empowerment. At its heart, “Prodigal Daughter” challenges the prevailing narrative of 'good immigrant' versus 'bad immigrant,' presenting a deeper, more nuanced story of migration, identity, and belonging.
“Become an Immigration Rights Ambassador” Training Workshop (In English)
This workshop will cover how ICE operates, how they collect information, and what to do during encounters. You’ll leave prepared to share crucial “know your rights” information with community members.
Special event: Teatro Jornalero
A group of Central American and Mexican day laborers in Fruitvale formed the Teatro Jornalero/Day Laborers Theater, breaking through the safety of silence to share their stories with the wider public. In this multi-lingual documentary theater performance, they reveal not only their own intimate histories and hopes, but also deep cultural roots, and the tragic effects of global forces on their lives.
