Red and Yellow Cards Campaigns
Red Cards
All people in the United States, regardless of immigration status have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. The 5th Amendment the right to not answer questions, and the 4th Amendment does not permit the search of personal belongings or home entry without a duly authorized judicial warrant. Unfortunately, many immigrants are not aware of these safeguards or become confused when government agents use intimidation and misinformation tactics toc onfound them. Red Cards are extremely practical, wallet sized tools that let agents know immigrants are aware of, and willing to exercise their constitutional rights. They can help provide a first line of defense by avoiding the disclosure of sensitive information without an attorney present. While the cards may not prevent detention, their usage isa vital part of Know Your Rights protections, potentially serving to stop deportations.
Print your own red cards
We strongly recommend printing these with rounded corners (rounding out the corners with scissors when cutting) and using durable bright paper, which allows them to be easily found in a wallet or purse and contrast well with black ink.
Yellow Cards
Rapid Response Networks act to provide witness to ICE activities and offer legal assistance to victims where and when possible. Documentation of ICE immigrant encounters can provide important evidence in later immigration deportation hearings. The cards we circulate contain the phone numbers of hotlines in many Bay Area counties
