Borderland - The Line Within, Directed by Pamela Yates & Paco de Onís
This event is a benefit for Mujeres Unidas y Activas, a Bay Area organization of Latina and Indigenous immigrant women building personal and community power for social and economic justice.
This urgent and timely film reminds us that "The U.S. border is not just a geographic location. The border is everywhere and within every immigrant." Weaving together the stories of a Mayan environmental activist from Guatemala seeking asylum, a DACA recipient and human rights activist, and three digital scholars, the film exposes the profitable business of immigration and its human cost, as well as the power of resistance.
The film will be followed by a discussion with members of Mujeres Unidas y Activas who will talk about their work in the Bay Area, including the campaign to shut down the proposed ICE detention facility in Oakland.
